Michael Dilks, of Kirby Bellars, was injured when the car he was driving was crushed by an articulated lorry on the M6, near the Catthorpe interchange, south of Lutterworth, on June 23.
An air ambulance doctor performed an emergency tracheotomy by the roadside before he was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital, in Coventry, where he spent three days on a life-support machine before doctors could operate on him.
To say thank you, the 56-year-old father is hosting a charity night at Syston Rugby Football Club, in Barkby Road. He has already raised more than £3,000 for the air ambulance charity.
